I am going to have to start periodically printing hardcopies of Sun's Certification web site. They keep changing things, and I don't know what the previous information was. How is the new SCJD(CX-310-252A) different from the previous SCJD? At this point - here is my own answer to this question(I purchased the old version back in March of 2000. I worked on it a bit here and there but have not submitted it.) => 1. The previous version of SCJD did not have a "number" associated with it. The current SCJD has the number CX-310-252A. 2. From postings here, it appears that the new SCJD requires JDK1.4. However, this is not stated on Sun's site. 3. Posted objectives on Sun's web site: NEW SCJD. The objectives from sun's site for the new SCJD says: SUN CERTIFIED DEVELOPER FOR JAVA 2 PLATFORM (Objectives cover Step 1 and Step 2 of the certification.) *Write an application program using Java technology. The application requires the following: **A graphical user interface demonstrating good principles of design **A network connection, using a specified protocol, to connect to an information server **A network server, which connects to a previously specified Java technology database **A database, created by extending the functionality of a previously written piece of code, for which only limited documentation is available *List some of the major choices you must make during the implementation of the above. *List some of the main advantages and disadvantages of each of your choices. *Briefly justify your choices in terms of the comparison of design and implementation objectives with the advantages and disadvantages of each. 4. Posted objectives on Sun's web site : OLD SCJD. What were the objectives for the old SCJD? How are they different from the new SCJD? 5. Old SCJD Assignment: My old developer assignment that I purchased 2 years ago was a "Fly by Night" application. I am allowed to choose between sockets or using RMI. I need to be able to write a gui and have the user be able to add flight reservations. I am required to use JDK1.2. 6. New SCJD ssignment: What is the new assignment for CX-310-252A is I do not know??? Has it changed? thanks, Kevin Thompson [ August 02, 2002: Message edited by: Kevin Thompson ]

Kevin, I don't believe there is a difference between the old Fly By Night and exam CX-310-252A. They just announced a couple weeks ago about getting people for beta testing beginning in August. So I can't believe they changed the test signifigantly without first going through the beta test. Maybe they require you to use 1.4 now, which is what I used anyways a few months ago. The only way for us to know for sure wait to hear from somebody that has downloaded CX-310-252A. The new exam objectives seem no different from the old ones. Mike

Mike: Thanks for responding. The whole deal kind of irks me. Considering the huge amount of money and time & effort that we put into these certifications, it seems like Sun could do a better job of providing info. Sun added the exam number "CX-310-252A" to the developer assignment. I don't know when. I don't know why. I don't know if the "CX-310-252A" is for JDK1.4. I don't know if the "CX-310-252A" is the same thing I already have, or something different. I don't know what happened to the "beta" that people here have discussed and appears to have been available for some time last month. My Personal Strategy: I added to my personal calendar: Once amonth on the first of the month -> Go to Sun's Certification pages. Check all the links to see if anthing is "beta". Print hardcopies of everything. Then file the hardcopies. Kevin
I agree. Here's the link: http://ej-technologies/jprofiler - if it wasn't for jprofiler, we would need to
run our stuff on 16 servers instead of 3.
