GUI question

The user interface should connect to the database using either a local or a network based connection according to user choice.

Does that mean we have to provide inside the HUI the ability to connect local or remote. I mean I am providing it for the user to key in at the command line. So do I still have to provide inside the GUI this feature.

Nope. Doing it on the command line is how most everybody takes care of the local/remote connection. All the requirement really means is, once the client has started up in whatever mode, there is no need to provide for reconnection, either local or remote.
Hope this helps,

I have another question related to the GUI. Do we need to (or if it is recommended to) supply a GUI for the server so that use could enter the hostname, port number and database for the server, in addition, it gives the user an opportunity to shut down the server instead of just <ctrl>+C..
thanks.

That's what I did, but many have chosen not to and still garnered perfect scores for server implementation. So, if you think it is necessary do it, otherwise don't.

Hi,
When the server is down, how do you deal with it?
If I throw a RemoteException,then should I process
it by showing a Dialog("Server is down") to the client or just like System.out.println("Server is
down")?
Thanks.

I agree. Here's the link: http://aspose.com/file-tools
