I have just started the GUI portion of my assignment, but I haven't done any proper GUI building in Java before. Would anybody be able to warn of the likely mistakes that a beginner is likely to make?
Thanks.. James

Hi James,
The Sun Java Look And Feel Guidelines will give you lots of information on how to design interfaces. It starts at a lower level than we need (how to design a widget), but goes right through all layout issues.
This was meant to be on our FAQ, but got missed. <Sigh>Good Sherriffs and Bartenders are so hard to find
There was also a JavaOne conference topic on Effective Layout Management - take a look at the slides, they give several good examples of what not to do and why not to do them (presentation is quite fun too).
Regards, Andrew
