You can purchase the exam coupon when you are ready to upload the assignment. Nick

Hi Raja, There is no time limit on the assignment. So you can take as much time as you like (one person recently reported that they took over 3 years to complete it). You must take the essay exam shortly after uploading your completed assignment. Your assignment will not be marked until after you have completed the essay exam. Sun require you to upload the assignment before you sit the written exam. There is often a time limit on the voucher for the essay exam. So if you purchase the voucher for the exam now, you may find that it expires before you have finished the assignment. So Nicholas' suggestion is a good one: where possible, purchase the essay exam voucher when you are ready to upload the assignment. (Note: in some countries this is not possible - some Sun offices require you to purchase the exam voucher at the same time as you purchase the assignment ) Regards, Andrew

Andrew, Are you entirely sure that there is no time limit? Every book i read said that the time limit was based on whether or not the java version you were using was not superceded by another version for more than 18 months. Also are you sure that sun only lets you take the follow up exam after you submit? I actually took my exam yesterday, but was not given rights to upload until after i took it. So i uploaded right after i took it. I wonder if this is in violation......but its not my fault so i'll argue with sun if it is. Dave

Every book i read said that the time limit was based on whether or not the java version you were using was not superceded by another version for more than 18 months. That limits which JDK version you can use to implement your solution. But if Sun and Java certification are still around in 2025, you could implement your 2001 SCJD assignment in 2025 using JDK 2.7 or whatever is the current release (within 18 months).

Hi Dave, The Sun requirements are that you must submit the assignment before you take the exam. Most people find that they cannot upload the assignment on their first attempt and have to wait a few days for the access rights to be updated. Due to that, Sun have been kind enough to allow people to do their exam before they complete the upload. But be aware that this is just Sun being kind - the official word is still that the assignment must be uploaded before the exam is taken. Monica has been extremely clear on that. Regards, Andrew
