The questions have relevance to your project implementation?

Hi ranchers,

I was about to submit my project when I chanced upon some of the sample questions for the essay questions given by sun when I went to purchase the voucher. One of the sample questions is "Which class (or base class) is used to store the data values that are displayed in a JList?". To how I feel, by answering this question the examiners have no way to tell that I did the project. Do I have to answer the questions in a way that it talked about my project as well? Really confused.. Can someone who had done the essay exams just post one question? Is this allowed here?

Rgds,
Clivant

hello,

no, that is not allowed here. In my opinion the essay exam is very good: You don't need any preparation when you have really done the project by yourself, and you have to learn a lot if you haven't.

I recommend not to worry about it at all, and not to prepare for it at all.

Hi Conan, I am asking if the questions will be asked in a way of relevance to how we had implemented our project..

Hi Clivant,

Conan is correct on both counts - we do not allow posting of real exam questions (in any forum, not just this one), and the questions you will be asked will be relevant to your assignment (meaning that you and I could get the same question, but we would submit different answers since we did things differently).

If you think about the areas where you had to make a major design decision, you can see where some of the questions will come from. For example, you had to choose between RMI and Serialized Objects over Sockets. So you could possibly get a question asking about how you implemented networking.

You might also get some questions on generic issues that developers should think about - thread safety / deadlocking / application "freezes" ...

You might want to check out Alain Trottier's article on the essay exam. It is a bit dated, but still very relevant.

Regards, Andrew
