Horrid JTable problem - any ideas

I have got my Jtable program (extending AbstractTableModel) calling the server and coming back with the results of user-defined searches. I have found that it comes back with 6 records and that on the first 5 calls to getRowCount the data is fine. But on the 6th call it is suddenly empty.

Return vector is 36 (rowCount = 6)
Return vector : [Dogs With Tools , Smallville , Roofing , 7 , $35.00 , ,

& on the 6th call..
Return vector is 0
Return vector : []

Any ideas would be useful...
