Did they give you an "automatic failure"? If so what did they say? Perhaps we can help you understand what the problem was.

Forgive me for slightly hijacking the thread, but if an automatic failure is given, will Sun provide at least the first criteria which wasn't met?

Hi Vincent,

Yes, if you get an automatic failure you will be provided with the full comments from the assessor explaining why they failed you.

However if you fail due to loss of marks, you will only get a score breakdown.

Regards, Andrew

Thanks you, all responser. The Test Center gave me message like that:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Assessor Comments: EXAM fails. Exam does not supply all the required elements nor does it meet the assigned specifications. The submission is missing some of the required documentation items. The "docs" directory does not contain the HTML document descrbing the assignment. Exam submission fails because it does not meet the Assignment Specifications. The application allows users to book hotel rooms for any date, including dates months before or after an open date. This violates the requirement that users may "take bookings only within 48 hours of the start of room occupancy" and so, the application is incomplete.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I had code my application with Thread and format the program, ...
Anyway, I thought I finished my mission accord to SCJD document. And I wrote Email to SUN, I want they give me a explain, but they without response anything.

Did you include your instructions.html in your submission? If not, you will result in auto fail!!!

Also, this related to the famous 48-hour rule.

Hi Feng,

There are two reasons listed for your automatic failure. The first is (IMHO) more serious than the second.

Automatic failure comments:
The submission is missing some of the required documentation items. The "docs" directory does not contain the HTML document descrbing the assignment.

Unfortunately it is a requirement that you include the instructions you received from Sun/Prometric in the submission you send to Sun/Prometric:

From the assignment instructions:
All elements of your submission must be packaged in a single JAR file. The JAR file must have the following layout and contents in its root:
...
A directory called docs, containing the following items at the top level:

  • This html file.
  • ...

Since this is a must requirement, if you did not give them back a copy of the instructions they gave you, then you automatically fail. No question.

The other item is more controversial:

    Automatic failure comments:
The application allows users to book hotel rooms for any date, including dates months before or after an open date. This violates the requirement that users may "take bookings only within 48 hours of the start of room occupancy" and so, the application is incomplete.

There have been (at least) two people who have received automatic failures because of this rule, and both passed after questioning the grounds for automatic failure. If this were the only reason for you failing, then I would recommend that you should fight to have it re-assessed. However the fight is never easy, so since you have to resubmit anyway (to fix the documentation issue above), then I believe you will find it easier to add the 48 hour rule into your new submission.

If you are interested in seeing how others fought against the 48 hour rule, you can take a look at Dieskun Koper's description of his fight, or Terry Martinson's description.

What did you ask Sun? They may feel that the assessor's comments explain the situation.

I wonder why the accessor bothered checking the application with the instructions.html missing from your docs directory. Is this not checked automatically by software? Maybe not.

If you did have your instructions.html in a directory called 'docs' in your submission, read Terry and my posts for our experiences with getting our assignments re-evaluated.

    Good luck!

    Feng,

I think the instructions state, atleast for me, the name of the upload file must be

scjda000000000.jar where the 0's are your social security number

Should it be in the docs directory instead of code?

Here is the quote from my instructions.html:

The JAR file must have the following layout and contents in its root:
    ....
A directory called docs, containing the following items at the top level:
    - This html file

And I wrote a text file named README.txt introduct all my files and construct.

I think this is of no use, because the file names, construct and structure are already defined in the instructions.html, and this is a MUST requirement, and thus, if you dont follow the instructions, you will definitely resulted in automatic fail.

If fail by this, I will feel very dejected.

You might try to fight for it, however, it is obvious that you have violated the MUST requirements.

Yes, before you submit your file, the CertManager's upload page has clearly stated that you file must be in the form of scjda-XXXXXXXXX.jar, where XXXXXXXXX is either your 9-digit prometric ID or your SSN (if you are US citizen).

Also, the file name zXXXXXXXXX.jar is only the filename that you download from SUN which contains the instructions and db files, it does NOT mean that you should use the same file name for your submission.

    Yep nick!

And you know what, the first part of the description of the file, the 'scjd' was on one line and the 'a000000000.jar' was on the beginning of the next line. I almost missed it but caught it after reading it a few times.

So I can see if others might have.
