Does any one knows about a mock assignment for this certification? I would like to get a feel on what a real assignment would look like and try to solve it before going for the real one.
I've read in this forum, that taking the real one and learn in the process is enough, but as I have a full time job ( as many of you ) I don't want to spend to much time with the real assignment, and instead doing the mock on my free time, and after I've finish it go for the real.

It has been said as well, that buying the Max book its another solution and that it has a mock included, but this time I would like to generate the knowledge my self instead of learn it from a book as I did for the SCJP ... ... ... ( To be honest, I don't want to pay first for the book, later for the ship and finally for the custom, because the resulting price would be $90+ )

So if anybody has one, or knows about someone doing it let us know through this forum.

P.S. How many SCJD are there?

Max's Book walks you through a similar assignment. I understand it can get expensive in other countries, but there really isn't anything else out there that even compares. Have you tried looking for used books at amazon?

If you are really patient, there is a new version of the book coming out later this year that will work with Java 5.0 (but I don't think it is projected for release until 3rd or 4th quarter).

I worked through the entire book before I downloaded the real assignment. It made a big difference for me!

Also, there are three SCJD assignments out there, although only two are currently being assigned. "Fly By Night Services" flight reserverations system is the old one, and you can not get this one anymore (although if you already had it, you can still turn it in). "URLyBird" hotel reservation system and "Bodgitt & Scarper" contractors are the two current assignments. There are several versions of each that differ slightly in the provided interface.

I fully agree with Paul. Go and get Max's book. You can spare lots of time when you follow his approach. However this book is only one part of the whole story. Another book I strongly recommend is Head First Design Patterns. Both books give you a perfect guidance through SCJD.

Good Luck.

Is not the money that I care about after all the book may worth it, but what I feel unfair is the fact to pay the same price for the shipping and plus the custom.

Anyway, I think I'll wait for the next edition as I have waited 4 years since I got SCJP, I've been told that the current edition has just to many lexical errors that are suppose to be fixed in the next release.

I have RHE's book, that was just perfect for the SCJP back then, but the developers section makes me feel that I need something more.

I'll wait, and I am pretty sure that having the Max assignment done will give me the preparation and confidence I need for the certification.

Thanks for your comments.

IEEE's Computer Society also has an online course series aimed at SCJD. If you enroll between now and the end of May, I believe the enrollment fee, which covers the courses too, is about $51. Worth it if you want to take the courses. (They offer something like 300 online courses in many different IT areas.)

The next release will be on J2SE Tiger.

I am waiting for the beta exam too.
