Hi there...
Me question may seem a little bit misleading so let me paint the whole picture for you.
I am a SCJP since April 2004. After passing the exam I have worked on improving my knowledge on Java. So far I am good at the following:
-Core Java packages
-Swing Components and Data Models
-MVC
-%50 Design Pattern
-Java Networking (socket, RMI, URLHandler,etc..)
-JDBC
I am planning to take the SCJD exam, but I am too worried since I didn't develop a serious experience in Java yet. But I have a great deal of knowledge on Java, and I am very much familiar with the deepest and darkest parts of some Java issues such as Swing, Networking and I/O. My question is; Should I sign up?
Thanx in advance

Hatim:

Yes, you should. You will learn many things in the process of completing the exam and the exam is really supposed to be for someone at your current level.

Besides, what do you have to lose?

Best,
Reza

hi there...
Thanx Riza, you know I am by my self here and there are a few programmers do Java here. Your words were very encouraging. I appreciate that.

Hatim:

You are most welcome, just start the process and the rest will fall into place. Both the books by Max Habibi and Alain Trottier are good in the fact that they will help you get a better grasp on what you might be missing. I would advise you to start there and pick up material as you need it.

When it comes down to it, no book will give you a short cut to the certification and neither should it (as a matter of fact, I would say take both books with a pinch of salt ).

This forum is also very good for sharing ideas with others and removing doubts you might have on your own and get you over the rough spots.

Best,
Reza

Hi hatim,

I will echo Reza's words that you will be fine. There are many people who use the SCJD as a learning environment. I was one of them, as I had little experience with RMI prior to working on the assignment. If you have questions, this is the forum to visit!
