Hi everybody

I was just wondering if you are allowed to bring anything to the essay exam - notes, your source code etc.

Anybody?

No you're not. The exam asks some general questions about what you did in YOUR project - they expect you to remember that. You have to bring id to confirm it's really you, but that's about it.
