Hi,
I was thinking of having to images for upward arrow as well as downward arrow to indicate the sorting order of the Table that i use for Display. Is it fine to do so?

Sure, can't think of anything that's wrong with it. Actually, I'm doing it myself (although I'm currently still fighting a bug there).

And that you can't do!
ALL work you submit MUST be your own, and that includes all artwork.

You can use those images as inspiration, but you can't use them as is.

Jeron, do you know this for sure? I thought this rule is only applied for programming code. Sun provides a collection of pictures for GUI why can't we use them. This is not a test for disigners. Well I don't think I can create some good looking pictogram . Moreover I thought it is a good style to use this graphics as Sun recomends to do so. Could anybody comment this please? Thank you.

The requirement doesn't state any exclusions or inclusions so you have to assume it relates to everything.
If it didn't, you could hire a tech writer to create your documentation (after all, we all know programmers aren't good documentation writers either...).

I've created some icons using the Sun set as examples (to get general ideas and colours).
Doesn't take too long, maybe an hour or so per icon (and I'm terrible at using Photoshop for more than some colour correction and sharpening of digital photos and have been accused of having the artistic talent of a gadfly).

Just checked my instructions, and in Bodgitt & Scarper 2.3.3, and URLyBird 1.1.1 the instruction I see is:You are permitted to use any IDE tool you choose, but you must not submit any code that is not your own work.To me this does not imply that you cannot use graphics from other sources.

The assignment I submitted (Fly By Night Services) did not (could not) have such a statement, and I did use the Sun graphics, and made note of the fact in my documentation, and ensured I complied with the licensing policy.

I have seen multiple posts in this forum from people stating that they intended to use the Sun graphics, and none of them have later come back and stated that they failed as a result. So I personally believe that this should be allowable. But you should definately make your own decision on this.

Regards, Andrew

OTOH B&S 2.1.2 also states "the final submission should have no dependencies on any libraries other than those of the Java 2 platform".

It doesn't specify that those libraries are limited to Java class libraries, so I consider that statement to exclude graphics libraries.

Hello everybody. Thank you Jeroen and Andrew.

As I understand Sun Software Graphics Artwork license doesn't force you to include the pictures to your project as a JAR file. It only says you have to attach the license. So you may extract the pics from JAR and use them all or some of them in your project. In this way I think we break no rules (neither SCJD nor license), do we? Thanks.

And that's the point. Does inclusion of any file you didn't create yourself violate the assignment restrictions.
I think it does, Andrew seems to hold the position that it only does so if that file is a Java class or sourcefile.

Hi people,

I think that you can use what icons you like as long as you respect the (icons) license.
