Hi guys,

Files first ... :

1. Can we use RandomAccessFile to read the database file or do we need to use DataOut/InputSteam as the spec seems to suggest?

Now bits ... :

A lot of people seem to be asking about this and yet no one seems to know what the right thing to do is.

2. Some suggest that when you read a string from the file you can do something like this:

3. Others say you should use ISO-8859-1 instead (as to how is another matter).

4. And to add to the confusion I read a post by Junilu Lacar

which says:

Got word back from Sun about this. Max Habibi was right: there was a typo in the instructions and it should read "7-bit US ASCII" instead of "8-bit US ASCII".

Does anyone know what's going on and what the truth of the matter is?

Cheers

Keith
