Bodgitt and Scarper - find

Hello,

I have a question with regards of find (search) from the instruction document: The User Interface section specifies that name and/or location fields exactly matches values specified by the user.

On the 'required interface comments', it indicates that any of the 6 fields can be used as part of the search criteria and that partial matches that begin with entered criteria of the field are accepted ("Fred" matches "Fred" and "Freddy").

So I'm not sure weather to allow on the GUI search for all six fields or just those two, and on the implementation of the 'find' return exact matches or partial matches according to the interface comments.

This is my first post here. My name is Simon. I do appreciate your comments.

Thanks

Simon

Hi Simon,

You might want to consider how many applications you are writing. I count three:
  • a database
  • a server
  • an end-user (client) application
  • Each application can have it's own requirements. As long as one requirement does not restrict another requirement, it is quite reasonable for the requirements to be different. For example, there is no reason why the database application cannot have less restrictive requirements than the client application.

    Does that help?

    Regards, Andrew

    Hi Andrew,

Thanks for your response, It cleared my confusion for this aspect. I will follow the requirements independently for each of the three applications.

    Thanks again,
    Simon
