Hi,

Just passed my SCJP exam finally and I'm keen to do the SCJD exam.

I'm going to be traveling for 2 years around the world with my wife, and I want to keep on top of things with my career so I've packed my ultra-portable laptop in my rucksack hoping to get SCJD done while I'm away!

(I can't wait to post some photos of me/desert-island/laptop/eclipse back to my ex-colleagues back home )

I'm a resident of the UK and wondering if it's actually possible to submit the project bit of the certification whilst I'm away and (if successful of course) complete the essay part of the examination in a different country such as India or Australia or NZ?

Anyone know?

Hi,

I did the assignment in Canada (technically... I was in Hong Kong but the voucher is from Canada) and the essay in Hong Kong, so it works

May I kindly discuss about your decision to do SCJD. I don't know you personally, so I may definitely be wrong..

I would aim at SCWCD, SCBCD, SCEA instead. The first 2 are questions/answers, read book kinda type (with minimal practice hours on computer). I feel they would be much more realistic.

The last one, SCEA, requires more reading, but at least, I feel a lot can be done with a pencil/paper (UML diagrams). No need to actually stay in front of the computer too long. You do need, technically, to read a lot (patterns, pros/cons on technologies...)

I haven't done SCEA, so don't base everything on me for this one. I've done SCWCD and I'm currently preparing for SCBCD.

If you don't agree, let my post be an additional motivation for you

Best regards,
Alex

Actually, your assignment won't be looked at until you do your essay exam.
So, you would submit by Internet, SUN would just *think* that you are submitting from UK.
Then, you get a voucher for the essay exam in any other country and pass it. 1 to 4 weeks later, you'll get your assignment score

You can actually buy the essay voucher before submitting. The only thing is, you must submit the assignment before going for the essay.

Regards,
Alex

Thanks for your reply Alex. My plan actually was to complete the SCJD, SCWCD (or SCBCD, not sure yet) and the OMG UML Certification within the next 12 months.

I'm a server side (usually web) based programmer to the SCWCD and SCBCD would probably be more beneficial to me. But I quite like the idea of getting my head around the SCJD assignment whilst I'm away! I'll have my laptop with me also.
