Hi all,

UML diagrams are not asked for in the requirements but I have noticed a lot of people on this forum that seem to have implemented them. Are they recommended to get a good score?

The requirements doc asks for the choices file in ASCII format, would I loose marks if I submit a Microsoft word document ? The word document would also make it easier to paste UML diagrams.

From the requirements document:
"A file called choices.txt that containing pure ASCII (not a word processor format) text describing the significant design choices you made."

I read in the book Java Developer 2 Exam Cram that a word document will be acceptable, but hesitant to go against the requirements doc!!

Thanks in advance,
J.C

Hi, James.

I think, you may submit both versions of your choices document:
as long as the choices.txt file exists where it should be,
the requirements are met.

hi James,

I would not go against the requirements.
The book you mention is probably old, requirements may have changed since then.

Herman
PS I did not send any UML drawings and got 100% score on documentation

I would say go with the text document. It sounds like an absolute requirement, there's no point in risking it. You could do a UML diagram and export it as a JPG image - they should be able to view that without any problems.

Hello James,

in my opinion, you should respect the format expected by Sun for choice.txt
(pure ASCII). On the other hand, there is one place where you can add a UML
diagram; this is in the javadoc. I have seen sometimes a UML package
dependencies diagram at the overview level in well-known java lib javadoc.
It gives a quick overview of the packages, and it's really handy for the user.

Hope it helps.
