Just an hour ago I cleared the SCJP exam. I got one question wrong, where I had to fill in the missing line of code.
Apparently I shouldn't have put the semicolon at the end!!.
Darn!
Many many questions were about basics. You should know the
language fundamentals and threads better than the back of your
hand. The bonus points comes from the rest. The questions were
clear, nothing out of the scope of objectives. But they were
surprisingly harder than expected, a LOT harder than the mock
exams. I almost felt like doing the Khalid's tests. I prepared
for about two months, read ALL the certification guides( thanks
to Barnes and Noble! ) and did all the mock exams. At some point
I was desparately searching for more mocks!.
Anyway, I am happy its behind me now. A big thanks to the Ranch,
and all the ranchers esp. Maha, Eric, Satya, Suma, Herbert, Nut,
Jim. Learning has been great fun here. I sure will hang around,
but right now the only thing on my mind is the vacation next
week Good luck to everyone going to write the exam soon.

Again, with a VERY BIG Thanks,
Ajith

Congratulations Ajith. You have done a very wonderful job and that is a Very Great Score indeed. I always thought certification for you was long overdue.Congrats
I need some tips Ajith,
Are you suggesting I should make it a point to do the Khalid Mock ?
Then about the Barnes and Norble issue, you said it another time before, is it possible to go there and use the books just for the mocks ? How does this go. I currently have R&H and Jaworski, but I can not spend more to buy more books. But I want the mocks, how did you do it ?
Once again, Congrats
Herbert.

Best Wishes.
Suma.
Hi Herbert,
You sure can use books in Barnes&Noble for reference. You can read, write notes, take mock exams.
Best Wishes.
Suma.

Way to go, Ajith! I knew that you were ready a month ago! What a relief, huh?
Funny what you said about the semi-colon! I had a fill in the blank, and it's exact wording (I read it 6 or 7 times!) was "fill in the missing LINE OF CODE..." and I, too, used the semi-colon as it is required to complete the line of code. I think it's really bogus that their parser can't recognize the end of statement marker. I'd be very upset if I got a 69% and failed due to this type of issue. I think some type of acknowlegement should be made by Sun on this issue.
I got my certificate in just over a week, so keep your eyes on the mailbox! Congrats again!

Surya, Ajay, Maha, Sushma, Satya, Herbert, Suma, Sree, Eric,
Milind, Java Nut and Walim - Thank you all. I was partying
Maha - I am planning to take SCJD by the end of this year. Right
now my project is headed towards Java and certification has put
me in a vantage point. Very soon I will be assuming lead
responsibilities which will open up more opportunities to learn
Java. I have worked in COM/DCOM/Distributed Objects technologies
for several years. Naturally EJB and componentware is where I
want to be. If SCJD requires toomuch of GUI/AWT/Swing, I might
decide to go for SCJA directly. May be it's an over ambitious
plan....

Java Nut - The infamous semi-colon huh? The funny thing is, I
put the semi-colon when I was reviewing my answers for the
second time!! Perhaps they should rephrase their questions so
that they tell you exactly what they want. As you said, for someone, even one question might make a difference between pass and fail. Phew!!
Thanks again,
Ajith

Hey, I used a semicolon too. If you're right, it would have made the difference between B+ and A- on my Java GPA . Are you 100% sure that was the mistake? RHE says that the test is designed for a range of realistic answers. I also don't want test-takers thinking that they shouldn't use the semicolon, if they should.
Oh, and have a good vacation!
Eric
