assigning octal to int var

.int i=019//ILLEGAL
Can someone explain why can't you assign octal to int and for which primitive datatype can we assign the octal, hex numbers.

int i=019 implies that we are trying to assign an octal number.. remember octal number allows values from 0 to 7 only.. this should be treated as.. octal number 19...As it has 9 in units column, it is invalid...
