Hello everybody,
I wrote the exam today. I used RHE and the JLS online for my preparation. I have been a passive visitor in this forum for the past couple of weeks. Javaranch has been a tremendous help for me in learning Java.
I don't have previous experience in java programming. I did all the mock exams online and regularly visited this site. That is all!! The exam closely resembles Marcus green exams. I scored 88 - 90% in the three Marcus exams i took yesterday for the second time after two weeks. Even though Khalid's exam is tough, it liked it because it makes the fundamentals clear.
The test was mostly on basic concepts. It didn't focus on APIs and detailed coding syntax.I finished the exam in about an hour, then spent the next 40 minutes going over all my answers.
Got 5 fill in the blank questions, the rest were divided evenly between multiple choice and single choice.
1 on I/O which was easy.
3-4 on Events
2-3 on Exceptions
2 on Garbage collection
Several each on inheritance, overloading, and overriding
2 on layout managers, including one on GridBagLayout. Had to know all the properties of the GridBagConstraints object and how they interrelate.
1 on immutability of Strings - thanks to Javaranch, for all the discussions regarding strings.
Mediatracker appeared as one of the choices in a question.
Good Luck!!
