1. Is UTF 24 bits? or 32 bits? I know it is an improvement of unicode. 2. (15,10) which is the x coordinate and the y? and is x the vertical line and y the horizontial line? (I am mildly dyslexic.) 3. Can someone explain what is transient in plain english? Transient only has to do with serialization right? what about threads and changes of states? 4. The infamous socket question : Is it also about serialization but with sockets? Can someone be very specific. 5. The mediatracker (another infamous question) is about how an object tracks/counts the number and type of multimedia files right? I am not going to be asked its constructors or anything? yes or no? ( What do i have to know if I get this question?) New topics that I know about on java 1.3 exam: ? means I am not sure but the others that are not marked are the core and used most often in Swing. JComponent JApplet Swing Border Package and interface JLabel JButton JPanel JOptionPane JCheckBox ? JRadioButton ? JComboBox ? JTextArea ? JDeskTopPane JSlider ? JPopUpMenu ? JTextfield ? JList JFrame awt layout managers used with Swing: FlowLayout BorderLayout GridLayout GridBagLayout GridBagConstraints BoxLayout ? CardLayout ?
1. Unicode is 16 bits , Now I would like to know if UTF is 24 bits or what? Because , in RHE it says UTF is an improvement of Unicode. 2. With AWT: g.drawRect(20,40,70,60) I know it is x,y,x,y because I keep getting it confused and I would like to know if x is | and y is - or vice versa! (Dyslexia!)
3. transient is a java keyword. Now is it used for serialization and threads ? Because this keyword has to do with changes of state I would like to know if it is also for threads. 4 & 5.There are 2 infamous Questions on the java programmer exam. One is about sockets and IO, but I would like someone to give me a similar question to the one on the test in case I get it. The other infamous question is about MediaTracker. I know MediaTracker keeps track of multimedia files but I would like to know if that is all i need to know about MediaTracker. (Do I have to know what Api it is in , constructors etc...) With the new topics on the Java 1.3 test, I know that it is going to have alot on Swing and I remember someone telling me JLabel, JApplet, JFrame, JPanel etc... are going to be on the new java exam.
I was not more clear before because I did not have my cup of java for the day!

Thanks for covering those points. You said "With the new topics on the Java 1.3 test, I know that it is going to have alot on Swing and I remember someone telling me JLabel, JApplet, JFrame, JPanel etc... are going to be on the new java exam." Where did you hear that it will have swing on the exam, I would be very interested if you can give me a URL or other link. Marcus
I would also like to know the authority for the statement that swing would be on the revised exam. The original draft for the JDK 1.2 exam (back in summer 1998) had Swing and a bunch of other stuff, but Sun backed away from that and the 1.2 objectives were only slightly different from the 1.1 objectives. The email I got June 21 from Diane Hudlin, Certification Program Manager, Developmental Technologies, Sun Educational Services said "We are not planning to change the objectives at this time. If we do decide to make any changes to the objectives they will be posted on our website in advance of exam publication." Now, sometimes Sun's left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing, so changes are certainly possible, but "somebody telling me" is not a very good authority.
Thanks Marcus and William for being to thepoint, cos it'll be a real concern for people like me who plan to appear for exam within a month or so. Neualnet, can u pls furnish the details asked for. Thanks.
I think Sun changed their mind. And or are going to do it for jdk1.4 or 1.5??? I do not know. I looked for 5 mins on Suns site if that webpage that I am talking about is still up . ( Not there ) And can you answer my java questions!

What I should have said is that slick Willie ( Bill Clinton) told me about the future java test. Then you know the source is legit!

Are you sure it wasn't in connection with one of the other exams? In addition to Sun's Developer and Architect exams there is another series of exams that various Sun partners have created. They all build on the certified programmer exam as the first exam in the series.

I do not remember, all I remember was someone gave me the link a few months ago and swing and its objectives on a test. It is possible in was another test , but i do remember it being at one of sun's sites including that new certification that is multi-vendor.
