Hi all,
Recently i bought the book of Mughal and Bruce Eckeel's "Thinking in Java"
I am from a non-software background. Please help me answering the following:
1.Is Mughal a better book vis-a-vis RHE and BOONE(The other two books
i am already having) for persons of non-s/w background?I found the exercise mock questions
are bit tough too.I do like the book. Please put some light on this.
2.Regarding "Thinking in Java", should i stop reading this(I know it's agreat book!!)
as it is not specially scjp oriented..I will be taking the exam on first week of OCT. 2000.
Thanks in advance.

If you are a person with non-s/w background, don't be hurry to write the exam in October.
First read Thinking in Java and some programs.
If you already have Boone and RHE, It's enough.
when you get confidence in subject and when you get good scores in Mock exams the apply for SCJP.
If I am wrong, any one can correct me.

Hi Sirisha,
Thanks for your reply.Regarding my preparation I have finished
Patrick Naughtton, RHE,BOONE's and some more java books after
i finished my OOPS concept in C++.I have done some Mock tests too.
Scores are not that promishing.
Right now i am in a fix- 50-50 situation.
But i know..if i can go through some more concepts thoroughly i can do it..
Tell me whether the pattern will be changed after 15 Oct.
Yhanks in advance

I know that the pattern is going to change from October... But I don't know the exact date......
From the book "Thinking in Java", u'll get the concepts strongly.
Practice as many programs as you can... from experience u can clear ur doubts by urself.
While taking tests, note down the questions and topics in which u went wrong and read those topics again.
If there are any programs in which u went wrong, note them first and do the exercise. then u'll find where u did the mistake in that question.
I agree. Here's the link:
