Hi, I have little hands on experience in software development. I have some basic experience in Java though. I very very much want to appear for the Java certification but am quite at a loss where to start at. Can someone guide me from where to start. Do i need to have development experience to appear for this certification? Sayli
Sayli C, I am writing the certification in a few days, and yes I am a little nervous. However, I have spent considerable time preparing for it. I would say that you have already started at a great place Javaranch, because everyone here is in the same boat (or barnyard, whatever the case may be). In this forum you will find tons of questions ranging from the obvious to the obscure - all of which come as a great help. I would advise doing as many mock exams as possible; they not only prepare you to see how the same question can be asked several different ways, but they will help nail down any confusion you may have with just about anything http://www.javaranch.com/maha/_Mock_Exams/_mock_exams.html. Marcus Green's website is also a great place to find enormous amounts of information (do the mock exams and read the tutorials) http://www.jchq.net/. Like I said before, if you browse through this website, you will learn many things you need to know to be able to pass the SCJP. Finally, practicing code, learning from the compile errors gererated is a way to get knowledge from the source, and go through the API a lot. Good luck studying, Thomas
I am studying for it myself too and thinking of sitting the test within a couple of weeks... so my advise might be wrong...(it depends on the exam result i guess....: ) I think reading one of the certification books is a good place to start. The 2nd book from left on the picture (look above) seems to get really good review but kinna huge... after reading though the book, going though lots and lots of mock exams would be good I think... hope this helps.
Hey Sean... I will not agree with you ...I have both the books that is RHE(the first book on top) and Khalid(second book on top)..I will any day prefer RHE...it is simple and good for certification...whereas Khalid is toooooooo complicated....Doing lot of mocks is the best thing to do........
