Can anybody help me out in clarifying my doubts in Hashtable and HashMap classes?

Well, I'm not sure what your doubts ARE, but if you are asking what the difference is - the HashMap class is roughly equivalent to Hashtable, except that it is unsynchronized and permits nulls.

HashTable has been retrofitted to implement the Map interface, so use Hashmap instead of Hashtable
