Howdy Y'all! I've been programming Java now for 2 years in my job and I'd consider myself a pretty good coder, but am REALLY poor on the theory needed for the exam. So I've decided to buckle down and learn all this stuff and get certified. Thing is, I have NO idea how long this should take, specially seeing as I'm working long hours during the week. Has anyone any suggestions? Thanks!
well u say u're wrking long hours, so i would say perhpas take a mock exam to c your level of theory knowledge then get a SCJP book. prehaps give your self at least 2 weeks or month.

Thanks Lee! I did try a mock exam and I got a pretty pathetic fail in it so I reckon I have quite a lot of work to do! I'd just be interested to know how fast other people out there were able to master the material.. cheers
It took me about 2 to 3 months of studying. I would study at lunch, sometimes during work, and sometimes at night. So I probably averaged around 4 hours a day, but probably only 2 or so on the weekends. I didn't have a lot of Java experience, and have been doing this stuff for about 9 months total now. I ended up getting 93%. I did tons of mock exams and used RHE as my primary source of study. Bill
It took me about 50 days to work it out. I started from zero. I studied about 10 hours a day during these 50 days. Since you already had 2 years experience, I think you just need to do some mock exams firstly, trying to figure out where is your weakness and then go over RHE book and memorize the things needed to know for the exam. I guess at most you need 30 days if you can contribute 4 hours a day. Good luck! luk Sun Certified Java Programmer
