I have a requirement to get a responce time from a usb joystick down to about 5 ms. The lowest I can get with jinput and joystick for java is 8 ms. (this is with a usb joystick) can anyone offer me some tips? where might the bottleneck be?

Thanks in advance for your help.

For anyone who might be intrested: The source of the delay was usb. Because joysticks send little data over the interface they are classed as slow usb devices and have a responce time of 8ms, more than enough to meet everyones requirements... except mine. Oh well, you can't win them all.

What if you buffered the requests somehow?
What is your application?
