Hie I'm new here!

I'm making an online game where player walks around the map doing stuff. Currently each step he makes I will invoke a jsp page to a hidden iframe to update the database his new map coordinates.

But I think this will put a very heavy load on the DB server if many players are logged in at the same time. I have thought of another way, but before I start coding, I wonder if things will be more efficient if I save his location in an application scope Hashtable instead. His latest location I will only update to DB when he logs out.

Or are there better ways ?
