Hi guys,

I want to build an interactive game, embedded inside a html/jsp/jsf page, could you please give me pointers on this?

Should I use flash? what other options do i have?

I want to make the game to be accessible to everyone with the least effort - what im saying is i dont to make potential users download plugins etc. for the game to function.

So i suppose my question is what technology should I use, pros/cons.

Thanks in advance for your advice

That greatly depends upon the nature of the game. Depending on what you need to do, it's quite possible to implement a game in plain old HTML, JavaScript, JSP and servlets,

Well Bear, what I was really thinking of was (in a nutshell) something where say in the middle of html page you have a square, which has a ball moving a bit like bouncing and then you have to shoot it to score, a new ball comes along which is faster etc...

Btw, like your game, its great. I was just wandering the black box that asks you to select the balls, is that java script??

Thanks in advance

Hmm, could be possible. I'm not sure what the mechanics of "shooting" means for your game, but rudimentary animation like moving the balls around is quiet possible, especially if you use a JavaScript library that makes that easy (I'm using jQuery these days).

Thank you!

Yes. The entire game is written in JavaScript with heavy reliance on Ajax. A servlets and JSP backend is used to communicate with the model and to render the pages when necessary.

Hi Bear,

Thank you for your previous response.

I was just wondering given the description above of the game I'm building, how would something like flash fair?? do you have experince of flash?

From my research alot of web based games are being written in Flash.

My main issue is that I dont want vistors to my website to have to install plugins etc.., i've seen this happen sometimes with Flash, i'm, sure you remeber the days when to watch a video clip on the internet you had to install plugins left right and centre, and the came along Youtube.

Anyway, thank you for your thoughts so far.
