Performance issues on Tomcat using Jasper report

I am using Jasper report on Tomcat. I have seen performance is very poor. I am suspecting our Tomcat server config is not optimum as others have used and done good with reports - my reports are very simple so that is not a problem. Is there a trace or tool I can use to solve this.

Have you tried running your reports outside of Tomcat?
