Portlet redirect question

Hi all,

I've got a way of making the portlet to redirect to another website. The URL is configured via the edit mode. Once it's configured to be redirected to another website, the administrator is not able to change the URL anymore because as soon as the portlet is displayed, it's redirected.

I know I could do this by providing some other parameters that portlet administrators can specify under the Manage Portlets section. However, there are 2 issues with this approach.

1) If the portlet has been configured and displayed on the first page, then as soon as the administrator logins to the portal, it's already redirected, hence the administrator won't be able to click on the Administration section.

2) The configuration set here is applied to this portlet whenever this portlet is added to a given page. There could be some pages that the user may have not set the URL for it to redirect to etc.. (not a big issue I guess).

So my questions would be that is there anyway to go to the portlet in a given mode directly (say edit mode) or is there a way that we can specify the parameter on the query string?

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
voki
