I have one question regarding the Websphere Portal Software. Is Websphere Portal Server shipped with WSAD 5 package, do I need to install portal server separately and then plugin ... ??? Please let me know.
Thanks

I think you have to enable portal toolkit in WSAF 5.x to get it working with portals.
I would suggest using RAD 6.0 because it is better integrated with Portal server and comes with standard installation.
Thanks for the reply. I will try to download RAD 6.0, if it is available.
But, can I make it running on WSAD 5.0?

I don't know if you already have found the answer but here is what you need to know: 1. If you have purchased portal server from IBM and have ordered CDs, the packet will contain CDs for Rational Application Developer (RAD) as well. When you install RAD, you need to install portal toolkit (just check the checkbox in the installation wizard)
2. If you are downloading the portal server (as a customer or from the trial download page), the portal server download page has parts (download files) to download RAD. Alternatively, you could also go to RAD download page and download it from there
3. I have never used WSAD to do portlet development but I know that you can use it for that purpose. I believe there is one version of WSAD (5.1.2 or something) that comes with portlet development kit. You just need to install the kit at the time of WSAD installation. For older versions of WSAD, you need to install portlet development kit separately. But verify all this on developerworks. FYI, you can have RAD and WSAD running on the same machine. I have done this successfully before.
4. I don't know what you meant by "...need to install portal server separately and then plugin ... ???" If you are talking about the test environment, let me know and I will give you pointers around that too.
I have downloaded RAD6.0 and it has installed 5.0 but I am not able to install 5.1 test environment. I searched on IBM site but couldn't able to find out anything interesting.
The problem is when I am trying to install 5.1UTE, it asks for CD and since I am installing from installation image, I am giving appropriate directory but it doesn't work.
Any clues?

Hi, WSAD 5.0 does not have portal test environment. For Portlet development you should instal PortalToolkit 5.0 on WSAD 5.0. It will support IBM portlet API only. If you want JSR 168 portlet API support You can do by 2 ways. 1. Upgrade WSAD 5.0 to higher version 2. Instal WSAD 5.1.2 and Portal Toolkit 5.0.2.2
2nd will be easy
Thanks. Ganesh

I agree. Here's the link: http://ej-technologies/jprofiler - if it wasn't for jprofiler, we would need to
run our stuff on 16 servers instead of 3.
