Hi all,
just a quick one, since I am not able to find independent WPS5.1 for my IRAD6.0 (Trial Ver) Can I just download any other Portal Server which supports JSR 168 and point my IRAD6.0 to that to setup a devlopment and Test environment? I dont want to spend more time on setting it up as I need to take up IBM 399 ASAP.

Has anybody tried similar things? did it work or you had last minute surprises? Please send in your replies.

Thanks
Shailesh

Test 399 indeed has some WAS 5.1 specific stuff on it.

I have some free, online, mock exams for test 399 on my website now. Check it out:

Free IBM Portal Test 399 and 829 Mock Certification Exam Simulations

If you look at the portal tutorials on my website, you will see that they are all put together using IRAD 6, but are deployed to both WebSphere and to JetSpeed2. I like JetSpeed 2. I find deploying a war to the deploy directory to be fast and effective, and while not as integrated as the WP test environment, it is much faster.

C2A and PortletServices can't be duplicated on JetSpeed2. Those are tested on test 399. Plus, the JSF and Struts bridges from Apache are not the same bridges used to make the IBM Struts and JSF portlets run in WAS 5.1, although the process for creating a JSF and Struts portlet is similar.

ttyl,

Can you find the Portal Exam information on the IBM website?

When you go to the IBM Certification Page, and click on the exam number dropdown list, test 399 has been removed. Strange, eh?

However, if you dig, you can find information on test 399, and on the new WebSphere Portal 6 test, exam 829, Exam 829: IBM WebSphere Portal 6 Application Development

It doesn't really say in the objectives, but I'm guessing this exam is targeted at IRAD 7, and WPS 6. JSR168 hasn't changed, so that part of the exam will be the same. If you're using IRAD 7, why not be one of the first people to tackle test 829?

Just an idea.

Here's the direct links to the exams. I've been having trouble finding them on IBM's site over the past few months:

Exam 829: IBM WebSphere Portal 6 Application Development

Exam 399: IBM WebSphere Portal V5.1, Application Development

Exam 825: IBM WebSphere Portal 6 Deployment and Administration

And here are some free mock exam simulators for the portlet certification exam to help you prepare:

Simulated Mock Exams for IBM Portlet Development Test 829 and Portlet Development Test 399

Cheers!

Hi Cameron.
I thought of taking IBM 829 but somehow I was not able to see that exam on Prometric site. so decided to take IBM 399.

yeah thats really strange but when I enquired to IBM Certfication board I got a positive reply saying IBM 399 is not retired yet.

------------------
>Thank you for contacting the IBM Professional Certification Program. Exams >399 and 829 are listed on the certification website. Websphere Portal >exams are listed under Lotus. Please view following link for Portal exam >information.

Your comments have been really helpful Cameron. I ll surely look at those links. I must say your visual tutorials on ExamScam are really helpful for Portal development.

cheers

Yes, some strange things are going on with regards to the WebSphere Portal exams. No longer listed along-side ALL the other IBM exams on the IBM certification site, and the new exam isn't listed on Prometric. Strange. I wonder if the delayed release of WebSphere 7 has anything to do with it.

I'm glad you found the portal tutorials (portorials) entertaining.

By the way, when do you write 399? Feel free to shoot me an email offline. I may have a resource or two for you.

Cheers!

Hi All,
I downloaded IRAD7.0 also...Trial download (10 cmp. zip parts) however I am not able to install Websphere Portal Server 5.1 or 6.0 as its not part of the downloadables. I think you can download only when you have IBM Passport Advantage Online or Express.

For IRAD7.0 see here
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=2042&uid=swg24013687

For IRAD 6.0

http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21219986&aid=1

Please let me know if there are alternatives to install WPS5.1 or 6.0 independently.

cheers
