It seems their future is dim especial after AJAX based RIA (rich internet application) client is coming out strong. Any comments?

Portlet like social networking applications are all the rage.

Seems to me, the vision of a collaborative portal we often talked about in the past has come to fruition with sites like facebook. What we will soon see is deployment frameworks built on a portal that make web 3.0 applications and Facebook/Ajax/Social networking functionality easy to develop, use and deploy.

The future is bright. And JSR286 isn't far away.
