hi all
I am new to this forum.Can any one guide me how to configure com port for communication with external devices.
Iam doing one project and I want to connect at com port
1. An instrument for RF measurements
2. A Digital RF modem to configure for digital rf carrier and alarm display
I want to give command to above devices so that it will respond accordingly i.e give command to com port and retrieve information from comport

I'm pretty sure you want to look at the java.net.Socket class. I don't really know how to configure it; hopefully someone else can help here? Or quite possibly it's platform and device dependent. You almost certainly will need some documentation for the devices you wish to connect (at least to tell you what commands are possible, right?) The may well have info on configuration as well. Good luck. I'm moving this thread to "Sockets and Internat Protocols" where there's a greater chance of finding a knowledeable person in this area.
