Instant Messenger

Hello Everyone,
I want to create an instant messenger in Java like Yahoo messenger but I don't know from where to start. Do I have to use RMI or it can be done without it?
If anyone has done anything similar please...please.. help or send me some sample source code.

i'm doing the same thing as you.just that i've got some clues. it may help you.
you download aol messanger, its written in java. you can extract the source from it and get some help.

You might be better off studying a complete open-source Java messaging system such as Jabber, available from . Check it out!
