The upgrade has officially been done. Do things feel speedier? Anybody notice any problems? Paul Little said that the actual downtime was under two minutes!
Now that we are upgraded, we should see no more 503's. If you spot any, or any other weirdness, please be sure to let us know here.

Hi Everyone, I spoke too soon before... now the upgrade is done. I ran into one of those simple, silly issues that took me forever to figure out. I'd also like to thank everyone who donated to the hardware fund. The box now has double the cpus (2 PIII 933Mhz), ram (4 GB), and disk space (40GB raid-1 and another 20 GB disk for boot/logs/swap). Hopefully this will meet Javaranch's growth needs for a while. cheers Paul

I don't think I notice a change one way or another performance-wise; definitely not slower. I'll have a better idea at about 3:00 this afternoon, which is when I've always noticed a big slowdown.
503s - the old usage limit was still in place, despite the new hardware, so getting some 503's this morning is not suprising (in retrospect). The limit has now been raised. However this is a very inexact science at the moment; we only learn appropriate limites throug trial and error. So we may occasionally see more 503's as we experiment to find the best settings, but we should be able to make them go away pretty easily. Two minutes downtime - I think our DNS entry changed, or something like that. I experienced several hours of "downtime" until I disconnected and reconnected to my ISP; then all was well. Others may have had similar experiences.
