LDAPS Problem / SSLHandshakeException

Afternoon, all.
I'm getting the following exception while trying to open a connection to an LDAPS server:
vs(xxxxxx.xxx.army.mil)javax.naming.CommunicationException: simple bind failed: xxxxxxxxx.us.army.mil:636 [Root exception is javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: Remote host closed connection during handshake]
The servlet this code runs from seems to work just fine from my local workstation with iPlanet 4.1 installed, but is throwing the above exception when it tries to reach from our development server running iPlanet 6.1. (So, I know the code should theoretically work.) Both environments are running Java2 1.4.2_03 and have the JSSE and JCE jar files in their classpaths. They're using the same keystore file that I've verified works on my local machine.
The exact code being returned is:

Any thoughts on what could be causing the above exception?

I've added some more information above, including the output from iPlanet. (One issue, for sure, is my lack of familiarity with iPlanet, which is preventing me from getting a more detailed error log.) Has anyone experienced this problem before?
