RMI Tunneling is slow

We have need to internet-enable some applications. We
have found HTTP tunneling of RMI to be one of the only
options since there is no possibility of opening more
ports in the firewall. But we are finding RMI tunneling
to be real slow. Has anyone had the same experience? Is
using SOAP any better?
Thanks in advance,
Jim

I agree. Here's the link: http://ej-technologies/jprofiler - if it wasn't for jprofiler, we would need to run our stuff on 16 servers instead of 3.
