Why underlying technology for JavaRanch is cgi (and not JSP/Servlets)?
No, we don't have any performance issues at this site but wouldn't it have been better if JavaRanch would have been developed using java stuff for symbolic reasons?
[ I know there are many stalwarts at ranch who can do this stuff very efficiently so it might be a matter of policy decision rather than implementation, but still to mention, i would be more than happy to contribute if any day JavaRanch decides to go in for technology change ]

Most of JavaRanch is JSP and servlets. Only the forum is cgi (perl). The reason is because at the time that we started with the forums there was no Java forum software available. We did look into switching to Jive but it did not meet all our needs. We are now looking at another implementation named MVNForum. If you are interested in helping out then you can help develop MVNForum which is an open source servlet/JSP forum. Just got to http://www.mvnforum.com and take a look.

The issues in migrating the existing posts from UBB to MVNFORUM would make an interesting case-study, though.
Or may be, there is an opportunity to write such a migration tool (if not already there).
