Navigation problem when session times out

I'm using a very simple layout implemented with a frameset (no comments please) where my menu is in a left-hand frame and the content-frame is to the right. For the menu I use panelNavigation2 (tomahawk component). Most of the time everything works fine; when I select a menuitem the target shows in the content-frame.
However, if I select a menuitem after the session has timed out, the content-frame display the contents of the menu-frame!
Does anyone recognize this problem, or does anyone have an idea what it could be related to? The problem occurrs both on IE and mozilla ..
