There are a lot of threads in this forum where people have asked for comparisons or mentioned about JSF and other technologies like Struts, JSP, Spring, etc. Which framework or technology does JSF fit into? Does it replace any existing technology?

If you had read those other threads, you'd know the answer to this question already. ;)

JSF is a JEE framework for creating web applications. Nothing more, nothing less. It can replace your choice of existing similar frameworks like Struts, SpringMVC, Tapestry, etc if you choose. Frameworks like Hibernate, iBatis, Spring (non MVC) and technologies like Ajax can sit right along side JSF and complement it when developing your applications.
