No Required validation in xhtml + JSF

Hi, I am using JSF with xhtml files. I am not able to perform validation on the form fields in JSF.

In my xhtml file , this is what I have written.

<h:form id="forgotpasswordForm" >
Email Id*<br />
<h:inputText id="EmailInput" 
 value="#{forgotpasswordBean.emailId}" 
 required="true" tabindex="1"/>
    
    <h:commandButton id="forgotpasswordCommand" 
     type="submit"
     value="Continue"
 action="#{forgotpasswordBean.forgot}"
 immediate="true" tabindex="2"/> 
</h:form>

why there is no required validation when I submit the form. required attribute is set to true in the html text field.

immediate="true" skips the validation step. Look at the JSF lifecycle.
