Hello,

i'm new into the java world and i'm wondering if is possible
to have only one HTTP server like apache instead of having Glassfish
or tomcat running on the same computer... also does the ee jdk installs
another server? tutorial links appreciated...

thank you!

You can run JSF with Tomcat. You don't need the full J2EE/JavaEE server e.g. GlassFish, JBoss to run JSF.

You can't run JSF or J2EE on the apache web server - it doesn't know how to run Java code.

However, you can run Java code on Tomcat or GlassFish without apache. They are essentially extended alternatives to apache. The main reason for running both Apache and Tomcat on the same machine was that in the old days, Tomcat was a lot slower when it came to static pages such as HTML or image files, so that job would be handled by Apache on machines looking for maximum serving speed. It's really not necessary any more.

ok, i'm going with J2EE...

now if i want to create a sample page using faces what do i need?
i created allt his files under "C:\Sun\SDK\domains\domain1\docroot"
what am'i doing wrong? why doesn't it work?
all i want is just a simple web.xml that i can use with a xxxx.jsp
so i can practice some JSF... i tryed using the eclipse ide and it
works good... but with a text editor i can't get it to work...
