.NET versus JSF

Hi all,

In another forum I saw a posted that asked the question: What are the differences between .NET and Java web technologies?

I wonder about this myself as I have never explored .NET. Can anyone tell me:

Does .NET support a component model of web development?

If so, does .NET provide the ability to create new components?

Does .NET have a "third-party" component market?

Yes to all of the above. The bigger differences lie in the fact that serious .Net work can only be done on a Windows server. A lot of major shops run Linux and/or Solaris on their webservers.

Hey Bryan, how are you and your wife doing?

Anyway, as you know Microsoft has a way of stealing others ideas and putting it out, but only working on Microsoft OS run machines.

.Net is nice is many ways, but to me will always be behind to Java technologies, because they wait for Java to have it, then they steal it. Just Kidding, they do come up with some things on their own.

Mark, we are doing great. Kathy is wrapping up a 3-three Masters in psychology and loving it. I left Sun two years ago and now work for a medium-sized security software company.

I am at Red Boss er JHat, I work at Red Hat on the JBoss Operations Network Team, building admin, management and monitoring software.

My wife got her BS degree in Dietetics/Nutrition and completing her internship at the VA Hospital.

Been doing a lot of skiing/snowboarding this year at Mammoth Mountain, so far have 19 days, with 9 more in the next couple months.
