Data Mediator Services Examples?

Hi,

Not sure if this is the right forum for this but here goes.
I have been reading a lot recently about Service Data Objects and Data Mediator Services. Generating the SDOs seems, relatively, straight forward and there is quite a lot of support (including examples) for them. Also the Eclipse EMF support is good.
However, I am struggling to find similar resources for DMSs. I know that IBM and BEA have implemented DMS support as part of application servers, but I was wondering if anyone had experience with implementing DMSs outside of the those containers? Are there any pitfalls I should be aware of?
