I went ahead with Apache SOAP.
my code so far looks like this (there has been no testing yet)

In this code, when I added my content (a StringBuffer to the parameter Vector, did that have the effect of making my StringBuffer equal to the SOAP Body?

I ran this SOAP request to a SOAP Server which printed out what it got. I am happy to say that the content of my Vector parameter showed up as the SOAP-Body.
