Any advice on the best tools out for working with message- and RPC-style web services from a Java development standpoint.
I have gotten quite proficient at using AXIS, JAXM, and SAAJ. They might be the best.
XMLSpy is pretty good as well.
Thanks.

One thing I don't like about Axis is the deployment process. Otherwise, Axis rocks.

It was for me, but then I started directly editing the server-config.wsdd file which is quite easy

here's a good RMI, web-service alternative:
http://www.jxmlgateway.com
it instantly makes your existing java software available securely over xml based http calls.....

But jxmlgateway is not open source. So I 'll stick with Axis in my current project, but thank you anyway for the knowledge.
