i m new to web services.what is the main benefit of using web services.

The biggest benefit of web services is that everything is standardized (at least almost everything) and you are not tied to any particular platform or implementation. For example, if you've written system A in .NET and system B in J2EE, they are able to communicate with each other out-of-the-box. In theory, that is.
