Could you please tell us whether you have any preference on choosing the product, i mean "Apache Axis" OR "IBM websphere" OR ".NET" etc.,

I would prefer Axis.

Once you download & install Axis, just look at some of the examples.They are easy & you can get to know the basics from them.Or just read the tutorial that comes along with it.
