Axis and Websphere

Hi Web Services gurus,

I have experience in developing Web Services using WSAD on Web Sphere App Server. My experience is limited to writing wsdls, generating the skeletons from it ...etc all using my IDE tool WSAD.

For a University project, I have been asked to develop a webservice using AXIS on Tomcat.

Here I felt like an ignorant as I have absolutely no idea what that means.

What is used instead of Axis on Web Sphere? is AXIS equivalent to JAX-RPC? I have had a look at the user guide for AXIS and it is not helping me much. It says that it's a SOAP engine but when I worked on Web Sphere I never needed to be familiar with such a term.

So Can anyone please give me an idea on how to get started on developing a web service using AXIS on Tomcat? what is AXIS? is it equivalent to JAX-RPC? and do I develop the WS the same way but using tools such as wsdl2java and deploying it to Tomcat as my container?

I'm grateful for your attention and help in Advance
