Hi all, In web services(apache axis),how the client come to know that the server is down.Just calling the server using stubs and if getting exception then or there is some other way also.
In case of client-server communication using sockets,if getting java.net.connectException we can say that server is down or there is some other way also to check wheather server is down or not? please express your views.
You could use Telnet to connect to the web services port (e.g., using the Commons Net library). You would get different results depending on whether the server is up or down. But that fundamentally amounts to the same way you describe, which is connecting and watching for Exceptions.
