How many big players in SmartCard area are using JavaCard Technology ?

There are only handful of companies like american express , mastercard , visa , citibank etc. in the business. How many of them are using JavaCard Technology ? What are the benefits of using Java in Plastic ? Where is the major development is going on in these area ?

I can answer your question partly-the major SmartCard players using JavaCard technology that I know are Gemplus, Sun Microsystems and Visa International.

Also, the GSM standard now supports JavaCard for the SIM cards used in cellphones. Don't know if any phones shipping use it yet, though.
